Now that OJ Simpson aka “The Juice” has passed on, the media is beginning its rehash of his life and particularly the part where he evaded police in his white Bronco and then evaded conviction with his ill-fitting glove. Where were you?
Mark and I were in the middle of filming “Full Cycle: A World Odyssey” in Europe. We were riding up and down the trails of Mt. Olympos, Delphi, Athens (Greece), Mt. Snowdon (Wales) and Meiringen, Zermatt and Lausanne (Switzerland). And then after each ride, we’d take the time to enjoy each town’s most popular beer, raising a toast, laughing and appreciating the scenery and townspeople.
Unlike America where newspapers were emblazed with OJ headlines, the European papers relegated this news to a short paragraph buried on the tenth page. That’s when Mark and I realized that America was not the end-all-be-all to the rest of the world. It was also a blessing to be removed from such a sensational, oxygen-sucking story about a former football star who possibly brutally murdered his wife and her friend.
Was he guilty? Will we ever really know?
The point I’m making here is that it was much more life-enhancing to be out on our bicycles enjoying the sights, sounds and feelings of nature than to stay home and watch a murder trial.
Check it out.
Do you remember where you were and what you were doing 30 years ago? We hope it was fun!
By the way, “Full Cycle: A World Odyssey” is now available at Red Coral Universe, a streaming platform that you can access on your television.
